Suspect In Deadly Hit-Run Ordered To Stand Trial
SHARON HILL, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
The suspect charged in a deadly hit run accident on August 3, 2008 in Sharon Hill, Delaware County, has been ordered to stand trial following an emotional hour-long preliminary hearing.
Lemuel Payne, accused of running down 16-year-old Faith Sinclair and leaving her dying in the lanes of Chester Pike, was criminally charged after his Mercedes Benz was found inside the garage of an Upper Darby. The car has been covered with a tarp and the windows of the garage had been blacked out.
Loud sobs broke the silence of the courtroom, crowded with friends and family members of the victim, as Sinclair's boyfriend took the stand, describing the final moments of her life.
Also testifying, Payne's boss, who claims the suspect called him three days after the accident, telling him that he was involved in an accident that left a girl dead.
Payne and his attorney, who maintains he was not the driver, left the courtroom without comment.
Payne, released on bail on court-ordered home monitoring, was held for trial on all charges.
His next court appearance for an arraignment is set for December 23, 2008.
