'World's Dumbest Criminals' Nabbed In Upper Darby
UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
What started as a burglary investigation at a Delaware home turned into the discovery of drugs, guns, fake police badges and much more.
Upper Darby Police responded to reports of a burglary inside the Upper Darby home of Edward and Debra Hatton Friday afternoon.
But instead of a burglar, officers found a number of marijuana plants, police badges and uniforms as well as several high-powered weapons.
"We also recovered this AK47 with a clip that was fully loaded containing 30 rounds of ammunition," said Upper Darby Police Superintendant Michael Chitwood.
Hatton allegedly told police he purchased the gun on the street.
Investigators said there were numerous badges from local and federal authorities along with uniforms emblazoned with their emblems. Authorities are trying to determine the origin of the items.
"Certainly when you look at the badges and different types of jackets and equipment he has, our concern is how many other times has he gone out and identified himself as law enforcement agent," said Chitwood.
Also amongst the contraband items were a number of Nazi uniforms.
Chitwood said Debra Hatton made the initial robbery call which sparked the shocking discovery.
"I guess you have to put them in the realm of some of the world's dumbest criminals," said Chitwood.
Both suspects are being held in a Delaware County jail in the lieu of $1 million bail.
