Deer Crash Class At N.J. School

HAMILTON, N.J. (CBS3/AP) ― Students at a Mercer County school received the surprise of a lifetime when their class day was disrupted by two deer leaping through a window.

The bizarre incident happened late Monday morning at the Faith Baptist School in Hamilton Township.

Officials said a total of five deer ventured onto the property, but two of them crashed through a ground level window into a class room.

The deer startled three students and a teacher who were working on a lesson. They managed to get out and close the door, leaving the deer to trash the room.

"These animals see their reflection inside of the glass and they see it's another deer, they don't realize that it's a piece of glass and they wind up crashing through that," Gary Hill of Animal Control explained.

By early Monday afternoon, animal control officers showed up and tranquilized the animals so they could be taken away from the school. The animals were evaluated for injuries and later released.

Fortunately, no students or teachers were injured.
