Police: Former Pa. Teacher Involved With Student

HAVERFORD, Pa. (CBS 3) ― A former high school teacher in Delaware County is facing charges after admitting to having an inappropriate relationship with a male student.

Curtis Key, 38, surrendered on a first-degree corruption of minors charge after alleged romantic involvement with a then 16-year-old student at Haverford High School last year, according to the District Attorney's office.

School district officials notified police on December 16 after learning Key, a language teacher at the school, was apparently involved in an inappropriate relationship with juvenile student.

According to an affidavit submitted by investigators, the juvenile was enrolled in an afterschool Chinese Club moderated by Key. The two are said to have had a "mutual attraction" that grew over time with internet conversations and afterschool events.

In October, the pair's relationship turned physical following a music event at the school. The student said the pair would then meet at Key's Wayne home "about every other week" where they would engage in various sex acts.

The School District began their investigation into the relationship as a result of rumors at the school. Messages the two posted to the popular social networking site Facebook confirmed their relationship, police said.

When police interviewed Key at his home, he admitted to the inappropriate relationship and said he knew his actions were wrong, but he "fell for" the teen. In a written statement, Key said he only had sexual contact with the teen twice.

Investigators confiscated Key's home and school computers to determine if he was involved in any separate incidents.

Key was indefinitely suspended from his teaching position after the investigation began and later resigned.
