Crew Member Dies After Del. Boat Rescue

The Coast Guard confirms that one of two crew members has died after being taken from a research vessel that foundered off the Delaware coast during Monday's storm.

The crewman had no heartbeat or respiration when a Coast Guard rescue helicopter responded late Monday morning to a distress call from the Russell W. Peterson, about 14 miles off Rehoboth Beach.

Both crew members were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., where hospital personnel later declared one dead.

The vessel, which was christened just six weeks ago in Wilmington, is owned by Aqua Survey Inc. of Flemington, N.J.  Company president Ken Hayes said in a statement Aqua Survey will work with the Coast Guard and other agencies to salvage the vessel.
