Modern Robin Hood To Be Sentenced For Robberies

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―

The attorney for a Philadelphia man who robbed $200,000 from eight banks in Montgomery and Delaware Counties says his client didn't keep any of the money for himself.

Jamal Solomon's attorney, Jeremy Ibrahim, said at Solomon's sentencing Wednesday that a mental breakdown led the married father of three to start robbing banks. The attorney says Solomon gave all the money to people who needed it.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ed Zittlau says the 34-year-old Solomon is no modern-day Robin Hood. He calls him a criminal "who terrorized these bank employees by putting guns in their faces."

Solomon read letters of apology, but was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison. He hasn't decided whether to appeal.

Federal authorities say he was involved in five bank robberies in Montgomery County and three in Delaware County between October 2004 and February 2007.
