Suspect Pleads 'Guilty' To Officer Shooting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― A suspect accused of shooting a Philadelphia Police officer in the face last fall pled guilty to attempted murder charges Tuesday.

Antonio Coulter, 20, allegedly opened fire on 21-year-old rookie Officer Richard Decoatsworth during a traffic stop on September 24 in West Philadelphia.

Coulter reportedly told investigators he shot the officer because he did not want to be arrested.

Decoatsworth was shot in the face with a sawed off shotgun on Farson Street. Despite his injuries, he chased the suspect for several blocks before collapsing.

Officer Decoatsworth expects to return to the force sometime soon.

Coulter will be sentenced next month.
