Over a dozen animals have been seized from a South Philadelphia home as what SPCA officials are calling a case of animal hoarding.
The Pennsylvania SPCA was called to a Grays Ferry home Monday evening after reports of two dogs fighting on the porch. Inside, officers discovered 17 live animals, including dogs, cats and a turtle, living in deplorable conditions.
"The whole house was just totally covered in urine and feces. It's just a mess inside," said George Bengal of the PSPCA.
All of the animals were seized by SPCA officers and are now being treated for malnourishment and other ailments. None of the animals inside ever received any vet care, officials said.
The two dogs found fighting on the porch were treated for more severe injuries. Authorities said there is no suspicion of dog fighting, but the homeowner faces multiple counts of animal cruelty and related offenses.
