Del. Man Sentenced For 2nd Deadly DUI
NEW CASTLE (AP) ―
A New Castle man has been sentenced to more than 7 years in prison for his second vehicular homicide.
Twenty-eight-year-old Andrew Rankin was sentenced Thursday. He pleaded guilty in November in the June crash on Route 1 in Dover that killed 17-year-old Brian Wilson of Havre de Grace, Md.
Rankin must also complete a treatment program for alcohol abuse.
At the time of the crash, Rankin was on probation for a November 2004 accident on Interstate 95 near Newark that killed a 20-year-old passenger. He pleaded guilty in that accident to second-degree vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.
Deputy Attorney General Dennis Kelleher said he could not recall another case in Delaware in which a person killed somone while driving drunk, then did it again.
