World Series Wager Benefits Philly And New York

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Philadelphia is paying off on a friendly wager made before the series. The Phillies loss in the World Series is a gain for the needy as both New York and the City of Brotherly Love will feed the hungry.

This was the wager:

If the Philadelphia Phillies won, the New York Hunts Point Terminal Market agreed to donate one truckload of produce to Philabundance, Philadelphia's local food bank. However, if the Yankees clinched the World Series title, the Philadelphia Regional Produce Market would donate a truckload of produce to the Food Bank for New York City. One truckload contains more than ten tons of produce. Sweetening the deal, some in the losing market will don the winning team's jersey while loading the truck.

Representatives from Philadelphia and New York announced Monday that both food banks will make out on this deal.

Understanding the ever-growing need for food, the Philadelphia Regional Produce Market and the Hunts Point Terminal Market have arranged for Philabundance to receive a truckload of produce as well.

Philadelphia Regional Produce Market employees held up their end of the bargain and wore Yankees jerseys as loaded food onto trucks Tuesday morning. The food was to be delivered to both banks later in the day.
