Police Investigate Alleged Rape At Penn Frat House
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Philadelphia Police are investigating an alleged rape during a fraternity party at the University of Pennsylvania over the weekend.
A 20-year-old Penn student told police she was raped during a party at the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity house early Saturday morning.
The alleged victim told police she was pulled to the edge of the dance floor by another student where she was fondled and raped. Sources tell CBS 3 the accused is a student at another university and is not a member of the fraternity.
Police emphasized that there was no cause for concern among other students because it was not a random attack by a stranger.
"It doesn't appear that this is a public safety issue. This is something that occurred within a confined group," Lt. Vanore said.
University of Pennsylvania officials released a statement that read in part:
"The University is offering support services to our student. Police have indicated that the situation poses no obvious danger to other members of the University community."
So far, no charges have been filed. The incident remains under investigation.
