The Trenton Police department report power has been restored after a major power outage was caused by a transformer fire in the area of Virginia Avenue and Grand Street, just before 8 p.m. on Saturday.

According to police, the transformer appeared to have been blown completely off the pole.

The outage affected a significant number of homes on Smith Street, Home Avenue, Jersey Street, Adeline Avenue and several other blocks.

Police remained on the scene working to illuminate the area and at the time reported power may be out for an extended period of time.
