Treasure Found In Walls Of Abandoned Pa. Home
WINDBER, Pa. (AP) ―
Piles of old
coins have been found in a hole in the wall of a long-abandoned Somerset County home, confirming a rumor that the
family used to throw money in the walls.
Jeff Bidelman, who owns a
collectibles store near Johnstown, says he was helping the family
clean out the house after the death of the owners, who had not lived there for
two decades. He was dragging a bag of old coins down the steps when he noticed
the hole.
Bidelman says that after tearing
open the wall, he found himself wading in piles of old coins in the Windber
home, about 10 miles southeast of Johnstown.
The
family's name and the exact location of the house have not been disclosed.
Bidelman estimates they could receive as much as $200,000 for the coins, some
of them minted as early as 1793.
