Temple Students Busted In Marijuana Operation
PHILADELPHIA (CBS3/AP) ―
Police say they seized 16 pounds of marijuana and more than $12,000 in cash after raiding a house near Temple University in North Philadelphia.
Responding to a tip call, Philadelphia Police compiled enough information to obtain a search warrant and moved ahead with plans to raid the residence in the 2200 block of Camac Street.
During the raid, they found nine marijuana plants growing inside the house as well as packaged marijuana. Investigators said the street value of the marijuana was about $145,000.
"There is a really big drug trafficking issue around here," said a Temple student. "I didn't know it was this close to campus, that's crazy."
Four people are charged -- Kevin Mastridge and Michael Deltito, both Temple students; La Salle University student Marcella Gringeri, and Jeremy Harris of New Oxford, Pa.
"People should come to Temple to learn not to be growing pot," said another Temple student. "It reflects badly on Temple students and it makes us look like all we do is party and smoke drugs."
The students have been charged with possession with intent to deliver and other related offenses.
