Flu-Like Symptoms Shut Down Atlantic City School
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
An Atlantic City elementary school will close its doors for the rest of the week after more than half of the students and faculty were absent due to flu-like symptoms.
Our Lady Star of the Sea Regional School will close until November 9 after 112 students, eight teachers and five staff members were out sick on Monday.
The students, faculty and staff have reported flu-like symptoms, including elevated temperatures, sore throat and cough. According to school officials, several students have been tested by family physicians and received positive results for the H1N1 virus.
Officials said the entire school will be cleaned and disinfected and the school will reopen next Monday.
Monday's school closing is the first for the 36 Catholic elementary schools in South Jersey.
