'Laps For Life' Swim-A-Thon Fights Cancer

BRIARCLIFFE, Pa (CBS 3) ―

Briarcliffe Swim Club held its second annual "Laps for Life" swim-a-thon to raise money to fight cancer on Sunday.

The event, which was held in loving memory of Craig Nelson, a dear friend and swim coach to many at the Briarcliffe, aimed to raise $9 thousand.

This is the second year of the event, last years swim-a-thon raised nearly $7 thousand for Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong Foundation.

Craig Nelson passed away after a tragic and courageous seven month fight with esophageal cancer at age 28, in October 2006. Craig is a graduate of Monsignor Bonner in the top 10 in his class with honors, he then went on to receive a B.S. in International Relations from Upenn.
