Elderly Veteran Gunned Down In Strawberry Mansion

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Police are searching for the suspects who shot and killed an elderly war veteran in North Philadelphia Friday evening.

Police said a 77-year-old male was shot outside a VFW Post near 33rd and Diamond Streets in Strawberry Mansion at about 6:00 p.m.

According to police, the victim was sitting on the front porch of the VFW Post talking to a friend when three suspects approached.

"One of them had a gun, pushed the decedent up against a wall, a struggle ensued, we believe it was a robbery, we are not sure of that as of yet," Captain James Clark said.

Police said the armed gunman shot the victim in the face and fled on foot.

The unidentified victim was transported to Temple University Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Police are searching for three suspects in the deadly shooting.
