St. Christopher's Students Honor Fallen Officers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Students at St. Christopher's Elementary School in Philadelphia put together messages of hope that honored the life of patrol Sergeant Pat McDonald and the brave efforts of wounded officer Richard Bowes.

"I know you've been through a lot, but all we need is you to keep us safe," said one student's letter.

The young children presented Captain Mike Cocoran of the Highway Patrol with drawings and letters as a surprise gift to thank the patrolmen for putting on a special thrill honoring their fallen comrades at the children's school.

"We always came here for the kids," said Capt. Cocoran. "This day, the kids were here for us."

The touching ceremony was orchestrated to instill in the children a sense of appreciation and understanding of the dangers faced by those who dedicate their lives to serve and protect.

"I know I can count on you," read a student. "I can't wait to act like a hero one day, just like you."

For the students at St. Christopher's, what seemed like a regular homework assignment, will have a much deeper meaning as their letters will go to the police commissioner and the families of officers touched by recent violence.
