Teen Girls Arrested In South Philly Attack
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Two teenage girls were arrested for allegedly attacking a female victim in South Philadelphia.
Investigators are looking into whether the group may be responsible for several other frightening incidents.
Police said the most recent incident occurred Wednesday afternoon when a group of girls attacked a woman walking home from work near 15th and Bainbridge Streets.
A group of teenage girls grabbed Elizabeth Himmelman from behind and threw her to the ground.
"Apparently there were five total, held me down, kicked me in the side, stole my bag, my purse," Himmelman described.
Himmelman said the teens fled after the attack, but they did not get far after they crossed paths with a police cruiser on patrol.
A 13-year-old and 16-year-old were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and robbery.
Detectives are investigating other possible incidents involving teenage girls and female victims in the area.
"They did mention that there have similar attacks in the exact same area of a group of four or five young girls jumping people and beating them up and taking laptops," Himmelman said. "It seems like they are targeting college kids."
Himmelman was not seriously injured in the attack and she was able to recover her purse.
The incidents remain under investigation.
