Sinead Kelly was welcomed by a familiar face when she returned home from Afghanistan, her son. It's been five months since Sinead had held her son Dylan, so you can imagine they had a lot of catching up to do.
"Hey, I go to a new school!" said Dylan, to his mother's surprise.
Kelly, 24, arrived at Philadelphia International Airport on Thursday, home from her second tour of duty in Afghanistan. Kelly, a Sergeant with the Army, was first deployed in March of 2006, just six months after her son was born.
At the time, the young mother was forced to leave her child at home with her parents, who were happy to help.
"We've become very attached to him, like he's my own child almost because we've had him since he was only six-months-old," said Genevieve Kelly, Sinead's mother.
Although the family was excited to have her home, they said they never take their daughter's return home for granted.
"A lot of people haven't gotten the chance that we do, their kids didn't come back home and that's a good thing to remember," said Edward Kelly, Sinead's father.
More family and friends gathered to greet her at her parent's home in Glenside, but Sinead promises that before she can catch up with them, she needs to "eat a Philly cheesesteak" as soon as she gets a chance.
The return home will be short lived however, as the Army Sergeant will be re-deployed to Afghanistan in just two weeks.
