Seniors Stay Cool While AC Is Replaced
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
The Philadelphia
Senior Center
under went a transformation Saturday afternoon.
Construction began to replace the deteriorating air
conditioning units that have been cooling the seniors at 1340 Lombard Street for years.
2,200 seniors depend on the air condition units that have
been in the building now for 17 years.
In the first major capital construction project that the PSC
has undertaken in years, the faltering units are being replaced.
While construction is underway the PSC will be holding a
"Beat The Heat Campaign" featuring free fan giveaways, emergency assistance with utility bills,
extended hours and days open during heat emergencies, information services, and
air-conditioned facilities during summer months.
The Philadelphia region has
been hit with a recent heat wave with temperatures reaching the mid 90s. The new air conditioning units, being funded by state grants and donations, couldn't
have come at a better time.
