Arrests Made In Latest SEPTA Attack

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Philadelphia police arrested four suspects in an attack on a SEPTA El stop in Center City. The attack happened one week after the murder of a rider only three stops away.

Authorities said a 23-year-old woman was attacked and robbed by four teens inside the Gallery near the SEPTA El platform. The attack happened in front of the kiosk at 8th and Market Streets at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

"She was getting off the El round 10th and Market Streets and she was walking through the corridor when she was attacked, attacked and robbed by four black, two black females and two black males," Philadelphia Police Lt. James Farmbry said.

The victim's fiancé tells CBS 3 she was kicked in the back, her hair was pulled and she suffered a broken tooth.

Police said the four suspects jumped on the Broad Street line after the assault, but transit police stopped the train in the tunnel between Broad and Spring Garden Streets and arrested the teens.

A 19-year-old male and a 19-year-old female, along with a 16-year-old male and a 16-year-old female were arrested.

"They will be charged with robbery and assault and related charges," Farmbry said.

Police are hoping surveillance footage from the Gallery will help their investigation.
