Needles Found Taped To SEPTA Station Railings

SEPTA officials are warning riders to be cautious after needles were found taped to railing at the Somerset station in Kensington.

SEPTA officials are issuing a warning to its customers after several uncapped needles were found intentionally taped to the bottom of stairwell railings at the Somerset station in Kensington.
Two needles were found taped to the railings on the exit side of the station and two more were found on the entrance side.
The needles were discovered by a SEPTA custodian who informed SEPTA Police.
Passengers were shocked by the disturbing discovery.
"That's crazy, that's real crazy, that's sick, I don't understand what this world is coming to," passenger Andre Williams said.
"That's real ignorant, that's real stupid because you got children coming up and down here. It's bad enough they're all on the ground," passenger Eric Perry said.
In fact, CBS3 cameras found needles all over the street surrounding the Somerset station. Some were capped and some were not.
Several needles were found on sidewalks that pedestrians and riders use every day. The needles and needle wrappers are in plain sight.
Some SEPTA passengers speculated as to why someone would want to tape needs to the railings.
"They angry at the world, a lot of people really don't care or have a value on life once they under the mind-altering substance," Phil Lecord said.
SEPTA spokesperson Richard Maloney released a statement that reads in part:
"We have alerted our entire police department that works in the subways, as well as our maintenance crews, to keep a sharp eye out for anything like this."
SEPTA officials believe this is an isolated issue and do not know if it could have been a drug addict looking to hide their stash.
