'Big' Ron O'Brien Being Laid To Rest

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Popular radio personality, 'Big' Ron O'Brien of 98.1 WOGL, is being laid to rest Friday after his death over the weekend.

Friends and family of the on-air legend were set to say their goodbyes at the West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd.

According to reports, O'Brien died of complications from pneumonia on April 27. He had been sick for nearly two months.

"We were shocked. We all thought he was coming back. He was one of the picturesque jocks from the 70's that everybody remembered," said WOGL DJ, Ross Britton.

Big Ron helped listeners wind down every weekday during his show from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. O'Brien's last show was March 24, 2008. He is survived by his mother.

Donations in Big Ron's name are being made to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. A check will be presented to the hospital during the "98.1 Loves Our Kids Radiothon" in September.
