N.J. Child Recovering After Swim Club Save
RIVERSIDE, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
A young child was back at the pool after nearly drowning at a Burlington County swim club Friday afternoon.
Jacob Rodriguez, 4, was unresponsive when he was pulled from the pool at the Riverdale Swim Club.
"He was gray and I thought he was gone," said Jacob's mother Desiree.
Jacob was asking his mother all day if he could ride the water slide that dropped kids who can swim into the deep end of the pool.
"I kept telling you have to know how to swim because the water is deep," Desiree said.
The minute Desiree turned her back to collect their belongings to leave, Jacob headed for the water slide.
Police said a lifeguard spotted Jacob face down in the water where he almost reached the other side of the pool. The lifeguard pulled Jacob out of the pool and shouted for someone to call 911.
Two good Samaritans rushed to Jacob and performed CPR.
"This kid wasn't breathing and he was blue. Then I just gave him two breaths," said Sally Fusco, who helped save Jacob.
"We did chest compressions. We did ten and then we put him on his side. It took about a minute before water started coming out of his mouth," said Good Samaritan Glenn Daly.
Jacob was rushed to Cooper University Hospital that day and was back at the pool Monday to thank everyone who helped.
