Benefit Held For Veteran Pine Hill Police Captain

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS 3) ― A special benefit was held Tuesday evening for a veteran Camden County police captain currently battling cancer.

Fellow officers helped organize a benefit Pine Hill Captain Mike Carroll, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma Cancer in late January. The cancer has since spread to his lungs and brain.

Captain Carroll is married father of six children. He has been a dedicated public servant for over 20 years.

The money raised at the benefit will help pay for Captain Carroll's medical expenses not covered by insurance as well as provide support for his family. As of Tuesday evening, donations have exceeded $20,000.

"It's been incredible, you sit home every day and you just think of everything that everybody's doing for ya and all the people that are doing things for you, you try to think of a million things to say, the most you can say is 'thank you,'" Carroll told CBS3.

Several hundred people attended Tuesday's event which was held at the Coastline Restaurant in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
