Phila. DA Lynne Abraham Interested In U.S. Senate
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham says she's
interested in mounting a run for U.S. Senate, should television talk show host
Chris Matthews not be interested.
Abraham made the remarks at a press conference Wednesday
on another topic.
Matthews, host of MSNBC's
Hardball and a Philadelphia
native, is considered a democratic front-runner to challenge Republican
Pennsylvania senator Arlen Specter in 2010.
"Look, if you're talking about one of the highest offices
in the country to be considered as a public servant for, how can that be bad?"
Abraham said when asked about her name being mentioned as a democratic
candidate.
"It's a noble office.
It's a wonderful opportunity, and if my name
is mentioned, how can that be bad?"
Abraham also said she'd be interested in becoming U.S.
Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, which covers Philadelphia and its
suburban counties.
But she says she's not spending much time on either
possibility.
"Right now, I'm paying very close attention to what I do
right now.
The people have elected me as
their District Attorney."
