Pennsylvania Population On The Rise
WASHINGTON (AP) ―
Pennsylvania's
population grew by two-tenths of a percent in the year ending July 1st.
Census Bureau population estimates released Thursday show Pennsylvania's
population increased by just under 30,000 to slightly more than 12.4 million.
Pennsylvania
is ranked as the 40th-fastest-growing state -- 41st, if you include Washington,
D.C.
Nevada is
the fastest-growing state, with a population increase of 2.9 percent.
Only two states lost population. Michigan's
population dipped by three-tenths of a percent and Rhode
Island saw a decrease of four-tenths of a percent.
Louisiana
appears to be rebounding from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, gaining
50,000 residents. After the storm hit in August 2005, the Census Bureau
estimated Louisiana lost 250,000 residents.
The total U.S. population was estimated at 301.6 million last July
1st.
