The victim of a terrifying attack on Penn's Landing described her desperate escape from an attempted abduction and possible sexual assault in an exclusive interview with CBS 3's Walt Hunter.
The crime happened in the 500 block of Columbus Boulevard early Sunday morning. Although the suspect remains on the loose, the victim said she wanted to tell her story so that others are cautious.
"I was completely blindsided. I just couldn't believe that it was happening," the victim said.
The woman said there was no warning. Moments after walking up to her car, in a parking lot along Columbus Boulevard at Penn's Landing, she was suddenly ambushed by an attacker.
"He was getting angry. He was grabbing my arm, telling me, 'Do you want me to hurt you? Do you want me to hurt you?'"
Struggling to escape, the 26-year-old victim said she has absolutely no doubt what the attacker had in mind.
"He was definitely going to sexually assault me if I didn't get out of there," she said.
Somehow, she said, she fought free and jumped out of her car. Moments later, the attacker sped off with it.
"Didn't even look back, I opened the door and ran screaming as loud as I could," she said.
"The situation could have been much worse. The victim's very lucky in this situation, but right now we don't have many clues or leads," said Philadelphia Police Lt. Frank Vanore.
A short time after the incident, police recovered the victim's car on Columbus Boulevard.
So far police tell CBS 3 that the attack appeared to be an isolated incident. Though police are checking surveillance tapes in the area, the public is urged to call police at their new tip line
215-686-TIPS if they witnessed the suspect, in a mustard colored shirt fleeing the scene, or saw the victim's car, a White Chrysler, at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
