Pat's King of Steaks received its proverbial crown Thursday morning. The Philadelphia Department of Streets presented the Philly cheesesteak inventors with a historical marker to solidify their claim as the king of the cheesesteak.
The curb in front of Pat's, located at 9th Street and Passyunk Avenue, will forever bear an official sign to commemorate the occasion.
Pat's King of Steaks was founded by Pat and Harry Olivieri in 1930. The former hot dog vendors are credited with inventing the now famous cheesesteaks when they wanted to try something other than hot dogs for lunch.
