An Ocean County woman who police say tried to poison two people with rat poison has been charged with attempted murder.
Authorities say on two separate occasions Dana Simons put rat poison pellets in sandwiches that she then gave to her sister and her sister's boyfriend.
The first timeearlier in the weekthe couple noticed the blue-green pellets in the sandwiches Simons had brought home for them.
The couple threw out the sandwiches without eating them.
But the next day when Simons again brought home sandwiches with the same blue-green pellets, her sister became suspicious.
Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor Martin Anton said the sister and her boyfriend remembered the container of rat poison that they found in the house and put two and two together.
If convicted, Simons faces five to ten years in prison for each of the two counts of attempted murder charges.
She was released on her own recognizance.
