Nutter Introduces Office Of Arts And Culture

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―

The city of Philadelphia is reopening its cultural affairs office.

Mayor Michael Nutter has issued an order creating the Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, saying during Friday's announcement that the city is serious about arts and culture.

Nutter named Gary Steuer the city's chief cultural office.  Steuer, of New York, is a vice president of Americans for the Arts, a large arts advocacy nonprofit outfit. He starts his new position with the city in October.

The city's previous Office of Arts and Culture was closed in 2004 by then-Mayor John F. Street due to a budget crunch.
