North Catholic Beats Frankford In Final Game
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
The closing of North Catholic High School marks the end of an era. After 82 years, the North Catholics Falcons played the Frankford Pioneers for the very last time on Thanksgiving morning and went out with a bang.
With only 11 seconds remaining in the game, North Catholic scored a winning touchdown bringing the final score to 28 to 22. The Falcons came back from a 14-0 halftime deficit.
The game started with the customary 9:45 a.m. kick-off, but was held at LaSalle University's McCarthy Stadium due to the overwhelming interest in tickets for the final meeting of this historic rivalry.
"The crowd today is over the top. I've never seen a crowd this large at any football game," North Catholic Principal Nicholas Waseline said.
North Catholic will be closing their doors for good in the Spring of 2010 due to declining enrollment.
"To think that it's all over, it's really a sad thing. It hurts my heart," class of 1976 graduate Jim Whitehead said.
North Catholic and Biondo Communications worked together to stream the game live on the internet so families who couldn't make it out to the game could watch their victory in real-time on the web.
