Bikers Bare It All During Philly Ride
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
A group of naked bicyclists took a four-mile cruise through
Philadelphia Sunday evening. The first-ever Philly Naked Bike Ride
kicked off around 5:30 p.m.
Organizers said the event was intended to bring attention to bicyclists and raise awareness about fuel consumption.
"I do it because I love the environment and I love my body," said nude biker, Stephanie.
Hundreds of bare and painted participants kicked off the event along the Schuylkill River trail. The route was kept secret from riders and city officials until the start of the ride.
Police were at the scene, but said as long as riders abstained from lewd behavior and illicit activities, they would not make any arrests.
Many onlookers snapped photos and shared laughs while the barely clothed bikers passed, but not everyone was pleased by the event.
"It's not right. You can't even jog in the park by yourself. They should lock them all up," said one angry Philadelphian.
Similar rides have happened in more than 70 cities worldwide since 2004. Organizers said they were pleased with the turnout in Philadelphia and they may bring the ride back for a second round of mass nudity.
