Police in Marple Township are investigating a violent home invasion during which a couple was tied up and beaten with guns.
The incident happened at about 9 p.m. Monday evening inside a home in the 400 block of Hampshire Drive in the Lawrence Park section.
According to police, three armed men wearing masks entered the home and tied up the occupants; a 66-year-old male and a 64-year-old female.
Police said the suspects struck the victims numerous times with guns and demanded money. The suspects ransacked the entire home apparently searching for valuables and cash.
While the suspects were in the basement, the victims, both immigrants from Southeast Asia, were able to escape to a neighbor's home and contact police.
Both victims were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Chief Thomas Murray said the suspects, who only made off with about $150, are described as black males, approximately 6'0" tall between 25-28 years old.
"They had gloves, they wore masks, it's going to be a very difficult crime to solve," Chief Murray said.
Murray believes the suspects followed the woman home from a store she owns in West Philadelphia.
No arrests have been made. The incident remains under investigation.
