Racial Leaflets Spark Outrage At Lehigh University

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (CBS 3) ― The election of Barack Obama is bringing about change at Lehigh University -- the kind of change that's leading to campus outrage. Students at the campus say they are being targeted by racist classmates.

Students gathered for a town-hall style meeting Tuesday evening to discuss recent events.

The campus newspaper -- The Brown And White -- had a piece of paper placed inside hundreds of newspapers last Friday that read "Your president is black. How does that make you feel?"

"Probably someone came around and stuffed them in into each copy," said editor-in-chief Chris Knight. "We've checked with our printer and with our distributors and there was nothing in it when they distributed it."

The leaflet was also posted onto bulletin boards at the school.

The president of Lehigh recently met with several African-American students who complained they have been targets of racial slurs since the election of Barack Obama.

"I guess it shows that racism still exists to a certain extent," student Justin Wilson said.

Lehigh's president said if they find the student(s) responsible, they face expulsion or suspension.

The incidents remain under investigation.
