Police Bust Massive Meth Ring In Norristown
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
Authorities have arrested a 55-year-old man in what is being called the largest crystal meth bust in Montgomery County history.
Investigators took David Brandon into custody and confiscated $700,000 worth of drugs and $117,000 in cash from a residence and storage facility in Norristown.
"We've never seen this much crystal meth in one place," Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said.
Brandon, an electrician, is believed to have packaged the drugs in zip-lock bags and stored them in empty DVD cases for distribution. Investigators said the amount of meth concealed in a single DVD cases was worth nearly $24,000.
The apartment in Norristown that housed the meth is believed to have been a regional distribution center for drugs brought in from as far away as California.
Prosecutors believe that a bust of this magnitude is a signal that crystal meth has become the drug of choice for the Montgomery County and possibly surrounding areas.
"Obviously it gives us a great concern that there may be more of a market developing," Ferman said.
Investigators said at the time of his arrest, Brandon was out on bail from another meth dealing charge. This time, he is being held on $4 million cash.
