Delaware State Police have arrested a high school teacher for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 10th grade student.

John O. Thompson, 26, has been charged with 1 count of Rape in the 1st degree and 1 count of Unlawful Sexual Contact also in the 1st degree.

Thompson, of Dagsboro, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at Sussex Central High School after two students told school administrators about the relationship.

According to investigators, the sexual assault occurred at Thompson's residence and evidence also indicated inappropriate contact took place while the victim and Thompson were in his car.

This alleged sexual assault took place while Thompson and the victim were driving in the Long Neck area sometime during the month of May.

Thompson was arraigned and his bail was set at $5,500 secured for his appearance in the Court of Common Pleas for Sussex County for a preliminary hearing.
