N.J. Toddler Continues To Beat The Odds
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Jayson Lenzcsh was born with hypoplastic left heart
syndrome, a life threatening disease in which only one half of the heart does
all the work.
After months of surgery, young Jayson is finally home.
"When he came home, he never threw so many kisses in the
world" said the child's mother Brenda.
His lips, fingers and tiny toes were blue in color but still
warm to the touch.
The doctors at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia performed
the first of three necessary procedures to keep his heart beating when Jayson
was just two days old. His second surgery was performed when he was just five
months old.
"They had his chest open and I saw his little heart
beating, he was just grabbing the gauze smiling the whole time" said
Brenda.
The infant's fighting spirit even touched the hard working
staff of Children's Hospital.
"He's a wonderful little boy, it's actually a miracle
that he's come this far and done so well," said nurse Dianna Slattery.
While the time spent in the hospital with her child was
trying, Brenda says that she is grateful for all of the education the staff was
able to provide in caring for her child.
Even though Jayson is home for the time being, he will need a
pacemaker and possibly require a heart transplant. Despite the looming
surgeries and rising medical costs, Brenda is assured that her sons will to
live will overcome any challenges.
"Just pray for us, don't feel sorry. He's happy, he's
alright and he's going to be here for a long time."
