Victim Identified In Deadly Del. Hit-Run Crash

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS 3) ―

Delaware State Police are searching for a hit and run driver who struck and killed an elderly man as he was while walking to church in New Castle County Sunday morning.

The 76-year-old victim, identified as Robert Shum of Wilmington, was struck in the westbound lanes of Route 4 and Fallon Ave. as he headed to the 11:30 a.m. mass at St. Matthew's Church.

Authorities said the driver of a green Honda Civic or Chevrolet Malibu continued driving westbound on Route 4 following the crash.

Several parishioners in front of the church witnessed the tragic accident.

"When he hit the ground, he was already gone. The guy was going too fast," one eyewitness said.

The driver is said to be a male in his late teens or early 20s with light-colored, long hair.
