Philadelphia Police Search For Serial Groper

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Philadelphia Police are searching for a serial groper who has been targeting teenage girls walking to and from school.

There have been a total of eight indecent assaults dating back to June 2008 in Germantown and Mount Airy.

Investigators said the latest incident happened Tuesday morning when a 16-year-old female was approached by man in the 7400 block of Germantown Avenue at about 8 a.m. The male appeared to be jogging, but indecently assaulted the teen as he ran by her.

The suspect's description was similar to seven similar assaults in the area as far back as June 2008.

In all of the previous incidents, the suspect groped female teenagers, ranging in age from 14 to 17, as he jogged past them.

The subject has been described as a black male, about 40 to 50 years old, over 6' tall, dark complexion and medium build, sometimes with a beard and wearing jogging clothing. In one case, police said the suspect had a noticeable limp as he was jogging.

Area public and private schools and crossing guards have been alerted. 14th District personnel have been made aware of this pattern, and SVU investigators are working to identify and apprehend the male.

If you have any information, you are urged to contact Philadelphia Police.
