Suspect In Geno's Assault Released On Bail

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― A suspect in the vicious attack of a Geno's Steaks employee was released on bail a short time after surrendering to authorities.

Kevin Bacci, 19, of Devon, Pa. is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and related charges in the December 27 attack at the landmark South Philadelphia eatery on the 1200 block of S. 9th Street.

Geno's employee Tony Chestnut, 32, said he was power washing outside when he noticed two males verbally harassing a fellow employee at about 6:30 a.m.

Chestnut confronted the two men, one of whom allegedly picked him up and threw him to the ground several times. Chestnut said he was knocked unconscious and suffered several broken bones, a fractured vertebra and a loss of hearing after the assault.

Surveillance video of the suspects was released to the public on January 2.

"It really doesn't matter what his economic status is, it's a vicious assault and suffer the consequences," said Chief Inspector Keith Sadler of the Philadelphia Police.

Bacci posted bail and released late Friday evening. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Thursday.

Police are still searching for a second suspect seen in the surveillance footage.
