Funeral Services Held For Murdered Yeadon Man

YEADON, Pa. (CBS 3) ― Thursday was a day of mourning and reflection for hundreds to honor the life of community leader Veno Leigertwood, 31.

"That smile will get you every time, I don't care, he'll get you with that smile," said life-long friend Doris Penny.

The guidance counselor in the Philadelphia school district was shot to death outside of his Yeadon home Saturday morning while his wife and seven-month-old daughter were inside.

The young educator was on his way to Eastern College in Radnor, where he was getting his MBA in December.

He planned to use that business degree to help low income students get into college. Family and friends praised the young man's efforts, saying that he was always giving back.

"He was a great guy," said Matthew Matthias. "Everything they said about him today is exactly the way he is."

The funeral services, which were held at Sharon Baptist Church, were intended to be a celebration of the young mans life.

But happy memories gave way to grief when loved ones tried to figure out who would take his life.

It seems none of Leigertwood's possessions were taken at the time of the shooting including his laptop and wallet, leading police to believe there was no motive.

"I couldn't believe it," said Donna Perry, a family friend. "It seems like, in my opinion, they're attacking the men that want to bring the young kids up in a great community."

Investigators in the Yeadon police department are still searching for the two suspects that left the scene. They are described as being two black men in their 20's. Investigators ask that anyone with information leading to an arrest of the suspects come forward.
