Officer Killed In Line Of Duty Remembered

Officer Charles Cassidy, a 25-year veteran of the force, was shot in the head after walking into a robbery in the West Oak Lane section of the city.

For 25 years Officer Chuck Cassidy chose to dedicate his life to protecting the citizens of Philadelphia.
On October 31, 2007, while doing what he loved most, Officer Cassidy, a member of the 35th Police District, was
gunned down on the very streets he was working to protect.
Chuck Cassidy, a 54-year-old husband, to Judith and father of three to Jody, Katie and Colby, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Albert Einstein Medical Center. At about 9:40 a.m., November 1, with his family by his side, Officer Cassidy was at peace.
Officer Cassidy, a member of St. Jerome's Parish in Winchester Park, was described by a fellow parishioner and officer as a very happy person who loved his job.
"Myself and the entire Philadelphia Police Department feel as though we have lost a family member," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson. The American flag at Albert Einstein Medical Center now flies at half-staff and black bunting is draped at the Fraternal Order of Police headquarters, all solemn reminders of a fallen husband, father, comrade and friend. The face of Officer Cassidy has been forever etched in the hearts of those who knew him and those who learned of him and his tragic passing. "We are deeply appreciative of all the support and prayers of the police, the clergy, the community and many folks we don't even know." - Cassidy Family Statement.
Now a city is in mourning. A protector has been lost, but never forgotten and the search for his killer continues.
Officer Cassidy is the 259th Philadelphia Police Officer to die in the Line of Duty.
