Jogger Reportedly Raped In Fairmount Park
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Philadelphia Police are searching for a suspect following reports of a second sexual assault in Fairmount Park in less than a month.
A female jogger told police she was raped while running near the 3800 block of Edgely Road at about 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
The 21-year-old victim, who was visiting Philadelphia, told police she was grabbed from behind and pushed to the ground where she was raped. Following the attack, the victim walked back to a friend's house and contacted police.
The suspect is described as a black male between 40 and 50-years-old and is between 5'6" and 5'8" tall. He had a goatee and mustache and was nearly bald. The victim said he was last wearing a dark blue t-shirt and blue jean shorts.
Investigators do not believe the suspect is connected to the August 11 sexual assault of a female jogger near Bells Mills Road in Fairmount Park.
A 34-year-old female was reportedly raped in a parking lot in the park at about 6:30 p.m.
Coincidentally, the attack occurred two years to the day of the last known attack of the Fairmount Park rapist, who is wanted for two rapes, an attempted assault and the murder of medical student Rebecca Park.
There is no indication any of the recent attacks are connected to the Fairmount Park rapist.
No arrests have been made in any of the incidents.
If you have any information, please contact the Philadelphia Police Department.
