Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of an explosion that destroyed a home in the Queen Village section of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia fire officials said flames broke out following an explosion in a three story row home near S. 6th and Bainbridge Streets at about 3:50 p.m. Thursday.
The force of the blast obliterated the front and back sections of the home. Debris could be seen littering the surrounding area, including a garage door that was sent across the street.
Neighbors tell CBS 3 they heard a loud explosion before noticing smoke billowing from the home.
"I heard the loudest explosion I have ever heard in my life, the whole block shook and then I ran up to the street and saw this building with the front of the building just blown out, no walls, no anything, everything was in the street," resident John Egan said.
Officials said the home was not occupied at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
PGW crews arrived at the scene Thursday evening to shut down the home's gas line. The fire was contained to one home and was deemed under control at about 5:00 p.m.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, but sources tell CBS 3 authorities believe two natural gas fireplaces in the home may have contributed to the incident.
At least six people remain displaced following the devastating blast.
