Rendell: Clinton Not 'Entitled' to VP Spot

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell – one of Hillary Clinton's most fervent supporters – says the soon-to-be former Democratic presidential candidate is not automatically entitled to be Barack Obama's Vice President.

"You can't leverage the President of the United States to make you Vice President. It's like an arranged marriage it doesn't work," said Rendell Thursday afternoon. "I don't think you're entitled. I think the presidential nominee has the right to pick someone he or she is comfortable with, compatible with."

And Rendell says he doesn't believe Clinton must be on the ticket for the Democrats to win

But Rendell added he would love to see Clinton on the ticket as Vice President. He says she meets his qualifications for a Vice Presidential candidate.

"Can the Vice Presidential candidate help me win and can the Vice Presidential candidate serve as President of the United States ?"

As for his own Vice Presidential ambitions: Rendell says he's not interested. He says he's been his own boss since he was 32 and was first elected Philadelphia District Attorney.
