Authorities in Montgomery County have confirmed human remains discovered inside a plastic container over the weekend were those of a missing honors student. The District Attorney's office said a suspect close to the victim is in custody in connection with the tragic death.
A container holding the body of 14-year-old Ebony Nicole Dorsey was discovered buried beneath a pile of leaves in the backyard of a home in the1300 block of Union Meeting Road in Blue Bell Sunday.
The Whitpain Township home was not far from where the teen was last seen by loved ones.
During a Monday morning news conference, First Assistant District Attorney Risa Ferman said 48-year-old Mark O'Donnell of Plymouth Township, the boyfriend of Dorsey's mother, has been charged with the teen's death.
Ferman said he was charged with murder, involuntary sexual deviant intercourse, abuse of corpse and other related offenses.
Autopsy results showed the young teen had been beaten, strangled by hand and by her pajama bottoms. Authorities said she was also sexually assaulted.
Dorsey, a ninth grade honors student, was last seen getting into a gold Toyota Camry Thursday night with O'Donnell and his four-year-old daughter.
Authorities began a search for O'Donnell after he went missing following an initial police interview Saturday.
O'Donnell reportedly told police he had dropped Ebony off at her home on Maple Avenue in Whitpain Township at about 6 a.m. Friday.
After he was taken into police custody, Ferman said O'Donnell admitted to committing the violent crime. He apparently told police he became enraged after coming home around 5 a.m. Friday to find Dorsey changing his daughter's diaper. He was high on crack-cocaine.
"I caught her molesting my daughter, you would have did the same thing," O'Donnell told cameras as he entered the courthouse for an arraignment Monday afternoon.
Though he denied sexually assaulting the teen, authorities said autopsy results confirm she was violently sexually assaulted.
"This was an absolute tragedy. The death that she suffered was a very violent, vicious, death," Ferman said.
