Teen Arrested In South Philadelphia Drug Raids
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Raids in South Philadelphia Thursday evening brought in drugs, guns, and police hope clues in an unsolved murder.
Investigators said the raids netted a mini-arsenal including an assault weapon.
"We will not sit still and let activities like drug dealing and gang related activities make it unsafe for our citizens to come out and enjoy their communities," FBI Special Agent in Charge Janice Fedarcyk said.
The raids were conducted at various locations including 4th and Fitzgerald Streets and 20th and Mildredge Streets.
"We're going to be back and if we haven't been to your neighborhood, we're going to be visiting your neighborhood in the near future," Insp. Bob Snyder said.
Police said one of the arrested was a 13-year-old girl who was accused of dealing heroin.
"Inside that location was a 13-year-old young girl packaging heroin and her mother was also present," Capt. Debbie Frazier said.
One of the places raided on Thursday highlighted the prevalent drug problem gripping the streets of the Philadelphia. Police said they raided an illegal daycare and found a hidden stash of marijuana inside the diaper of a young child.
In addition to cleaning up neighborhoods, police are hoping to pressure alleged drug dealers to lead them to the killer of 23-year-old aspiring teacher Beau Zabel.
Zabel was fatally shot during an apparent attempted robbery near 8th and Ellsworth Streets on June 15.
