Presidential Candidates Come to Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Three democratic presidential hopefuls paid a visit to North Philadelphia Monday afternoon to discuss their ideas for combatting poverty.

Sen. Hilary Clinton (D-N.Y), John Edwards, and Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) all attended a forum hosted by the anti-poverty organization ACORN at the Bright Hope Baptist Church.

"It wasn't that long ago that the economy was producing 22 million new jobs, and more people were lifted out of poverty than at any time in our history," Clinton said.

Earlier, Clinton visited City Hall and received an endorsement from Mayor John Street. With arguably her stiffest competitor, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), hoping to be the first African American president, Clinton certainly welcomed the endorsement.

"The American people are going to, for the first time, elect a first lady to the presidency," Street said.

Clinton vowed she is the one who can help the cities.

"Let's set a goal of getting police back on the streets so that we out-gun and out-man the criminals," Clinton said.
